Diversity and Inclusion
Acknowledgement Statement
Here at KARDIA, we continue to listen, learn and reflect upon how fitness is not as accessible as it can and should be. Marginalized people continue to face systemic and individual barriers to participation, and we can no longer be complicit. As leaders in the Toronto fitness community, we are holding ourselves accountable to influencing change and committing to a diverse, equitable and inclusive fitness community and we hope that our community will hold us accountable and highlight the areas where we can continue to do better.
Commitment Statement
Our community comes from all walks of life. KARDIA is committed to ongoing learning, engaging diverse voices and fostering an equitable and inclusive fitness community to promote accessible fitness opportunities for all.
Inclusion Policy
KARDIA is committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive fitness community to promote accessible fitness for all. KARDIA celebrates and welcomes the diversity of all instructors, community partners, volunteers, and members. It is the policy of KARDIA, and by extension, its instructors, community partners, volunteers, and members, to foster an environment that respects people’s dignity, ideas and beliefs thereby ensuring a safe, comfortable, and supportive environment free from discrimination, oppression, harassment and hate. Violation of this policy will lead to the review of the continued relationship between the parties and may result in the termination of said relationship.
Land Acknowledgement
KARDIA acknowledges that we are on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples. It is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
